When I am afraid, I put my trust in you

When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.
In God, whose word I praise—
in God I trust and am not afraid.
What can mere mortals do to me?  Psalm 56:3-4

The Lord is our light and our salvation.  He is our rock and our fortress.  He is our sword and our shield.  We have nothing to fear. Often times in life as we walk with Christ we can face circumstances and situations which will test us and stretch us.  If we simply focus on the situation without seeing it through the eyes of the Lord, we can become filled with fear.

But when we view all things from God’s perspective we see He is simply in control.  He can work in any situation and circumstance and use it for our good and our glory.  He chose us before the foundation of the world and He has designed and ordered our every step.  Nothing is a surprise to Him and nothing with Him happens by accident or chance.  Everything is on purpose for an eternal purpose.  He has simply put us on this earth to bring glory and honor to His name.  May we fix our eyes upon the Lord Jesus Christ and prepare our hearts for His soon coming.

For You have been my stronghold And a refuge in the day of my distress

But as for me, I shall sing of Your strength; Yes, I shall joyfully sing of Your loving kindness in the morning, For You have been my stronghold And a refuge in the day of my distress.

Psalm 59:16 NASB

The Lord is our stronghold.  He is the one who sustains us throughout this journey we call life.  For everything God has called us to do, He has equipped us for His purposes.  Our journey with Him is a journey of progressive growth.  Through every trial and challenge we learn to rely upon the Lord each and every day.  We learn to decrease so that He may increase in us.

God has given us His word to guide our lives, to correct us, and to encourage us on a daily basis.  Time spent daily in God’s word will renew our minds and transform our lives.  It will give us the proper perspective in every situation.  If we walk this journey without spending time in God’s word we will see all things from an earthly perspective.  We will see things as impossible and will believe things to be limited.  But when we diligently study the scripture daily we will have a heavenly perspective.  We will believe and understand with the Lord nothing is impossible.  We will see with God there are no limits and that whatever He has called and commissioned us to do is indeed possible because it is simply accomplished through Him and by His hand.

John 10:6-10: I am the gate for the sheep

Those who heard Jesus use this illustration didn’t understand what he meant, so he explained it to them: “I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep. All who came before me[a] were thieves and robbers. But the true sheep did not listen to them. Yes, I am the gate. Those who come in through me will be saved.[b] They will come and go freely and will find good pastures. 10 The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.  John 10:6-10

Jesus is the true gate and His sheep hear His voice and respond.  There have been many throughout history who have claimed to represent God.  There have been many who have gone forth and deceived many through the lies and deceptions of Satan.

Satan’s only desire is to kill, steal, and destroy.  He desires to destroy as many lives as he can because he is driven by wickedness and darkness.  When he rebelled against God and desired that he would be the one who would be worshiped, the Lord cast him out with a third of the demons who aligned with him in his rebellion.

People have been created in the image of God and this is why Satan desires to destroy humanity.  But those who choose to follow Jesus Christ are protected by the Good Shepherd.  It doesn’t mean we won’t face trials or difficult times upon this earth.  But it means that everything we face the Lord will lead us through and He will use all things for our good and our future.

Knowing the voice of the Lord is key in this hour.  It protects our hearts against the lies and deceptions of Satan that continue to fill the earth on a greater basis.  The only way to come to know the voice and leading of the Holy Spirit is through spending time in God’s word and in prayer.  As we fellowship daily with the Lord we will come to know His voice and He will transform our lives from the inside out.

Walking daily with Jesus is a journey of being transformed into His likeness and His image.  As we are transformed the very nature of who Jesus is fills us from the inside out.  May we draw near this day to the Good Shepherd and understand that He will always protect, provide, and watch over us.

Test the spirits

Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.  1 John 4:1.

We are called to test every spirit.  There are many false teachers who masquerade themselves as true teachers of God.  Jesus said that people would know His disciples by the fruit in their lives.  Just because someone claims to represent Jesus Christ and claims to preach the truth doesn’t mean that they indeed do.  We must become deep students of God’s word and walk intimately with the Lord because it is through developing deep intimacy that we will become sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit and be able to discern the spirit behind the one who is ministering or speaking.

It is very easy to get caught up in those who are false teachers because often times they carry much charisma.  We must look beyond the surface and see into the heart of the individual.  This is only possible as we spend time with the Lord and walk closely with Him.  We must ask the Holy Spirit to fill us a fresh and a new each day and ask the Holy Spirit to give us eyes to see and ears to hear.  If we will simply ask the Holy Spirit will lead and guide us into all truth.

My God, my strength, in whom I will trust

I will love You, O Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; My God, my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

Psalm 18:1-2 NKJV

The Lord is our strength and our stronghold.  We live in a world that is filled with many uncertainties.  Day by day the world continues to grow more unstable as more and more cast off restraint and follow hard after the desires of the flesh.  If our eyes are focused on our circumstances or our selves we can become very overwhelmed.  But when our eyes are focused upon the Lord alone we know we have built our lives on a sure foundation.

The enemy will try to overwhelm us with doubt, fear, and worry.  But every arrow the enemy will fling our way is simply a lie.  We must hide ourselves behind the shield of faith and keep our eyes focused solely upon the Lord and the promises that are found in His word.  This is why it is so important for us to simply abide in the Lord each day through His word and prayer.  As we seek His face He will lead and guide us one step at a time.
