“Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, And whose hope is the Lord. For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, Which spreads out its roots by the river, And will not fear when heat comes; But its leaf will be green, And will not be anxious in the year of drought, Nor will cease from yielding fruit.
Jeremiah 17:7-8 NKJV
There is great blessing in simply trusting in the Lord. In this life we will face trials and tribulations. We will faces many storms on our journey with Jesus. But through everything we face God will sustain us. He will sustain us by His grace and power. As we grow in Christ we learn to trust the Lord more and more in all situations.
Growing in Christ is a very uncomfortable thing. Because what God is continually doing is He is challenging us. He is pruning us and cutting away the aspects of our sinful selfish nature and He is replacing it with the character and nature of Christ. He has given us His word each day to feed off of because the enemy is continually trying to bombard our minds with lies and deceptions.
God is faithful in every situation. The dreams and desires He has placed within us, He will be faithful to complete and fulfill. Many times the enemy will fill our hearts and minds with doubts and fears that some how God has forgotten us or somehow we have missed it. But as we abide in Him each day and walk closely with Him we will be like a tree planted by the waters, which spreads out its roots by the river. Hold fast my friends, God is always faithful. He is leading and guiding us each day and preparing us for His glory.
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.
Jeremiah 29:11-13 NKJV
The plans and purposes that God has for us are far greater than we know. Often times when we find ourselves in a difficult season in life it can feel as if God has forgotten us or given up on us. But He is always working in our lives to accomplish His plans and His purposes. But the key is in seeking the Lord daily. Because as we seek Him we shall find Him. He will bring all things to pass by His mighty power and His grace. One of the things we learn as we grow in Christ is to rest in the Lord and in His timing. When we do things according to God’s timing things always run very smoothly because it is the Lord alone accomplishing His plans and purposes. May we seek Him daily and keep our eyes fixed upon Him.
5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,
before you were born I set you apart;
I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” Jeremiah 1:5
These words were originally spoken by the Lord to the prophet Jeremiah. Jeremiah had a very difficult ministry in which he was rejected by the nation of Israel throughout the course of his life and ministry. He was chosen and commissioned by the Lord to be a prophet to the nation. But he lived at a time when Israel as a nation had turned its back on God and His ways. They desired instead to worship the gods of foreign nations and to embrace the practices that were forbidden by the Lord.
It ultimately led to Judah being removed from the land by the Babylonian empire. But these words spoken to Jeremiah can hold true for every believer who follows Jesus Christ. The Lord knows all things. He knows every heart that will turn to Him and make Him Lord and Savior. Before we are ever born the Lord has so planned and designed our lives. The plans and purposes God has for us are not for us alone, but are part of His greater plan for humanity.
Our faithfulness to the Lord will impact the hearts and minds of many. We will never know the full impact of our lives until we get to Heaven some day. But while we are on this earth we must continue to press on with Christ as our focus. Our every desire should simply be done to honor and glorify His name. Each and every day we have upon this earth is another opportunity to further God’s kingdom. No matter how much discouragement we may face we must continue to press on toward the high call in Christ Jesus.
Nothing that takes place in our lives is by chance or accident. God has designed our lives and He will open every door in His due time. One of the most difficult things to do is to wait patiently upon the Lord and His timing. His timing and His ways are vastly different than our own and it requires that we hold fast and continue to grow in the character of Christ. When we are called to wait the Lord is continually growing His character within us. Everyone of us are significant to God and His kingdom. Let us be faithful with the gifts and talents that God has given us.
