This is the written account of Adam’s family line.

When God created mankind, he made them in the likeness of God. He created them male and female and blessed them. And he named them “Mankind”[a] when they were created.

When Adam had lived 130 years, he had a son in his own likeness, in his own image; and he named him Seth. After Seth was born, Adam lived 800 years and had other sons and daughters. Altogether, Adam lived a total of 930 years, and then he died.

When Seth had lived 105 years, he became the father[b] of Enosh. After he became the father of Enosh, Seth lived 807 years and had other sons and daughters. Altogether, Seth lived a total of 912 years, and then he died.

When Enosh had lived 90 years, he became the father of Kenan. 10 After he became the father of Kenan, Enosh lived 815 years and had other sons and daughters. 11 Altogether, Enosh lived a total of 905 years, and then he died.

12 When Kenan had lived 70 years, he became the father of Mahalalel. 13 After he became the father of Mahalalel, Kenan lived 840 years and had other sons and daughters. 14 Altogether, Kenan lived a total of 910 years, and then he died.

15 When Mahalalel had lived 65 years, he became the father of Jared. 16 After he became the father of Jared, Mahalalel lived 830 years and had other sons and daughters. 17 Altogether, Mahalalel lived a total of 895 years, and then he died.

18 When Jared had lived 162 years, he became the father of Enoch. 19 After he became the father of Enoch, Jared lived 800 years and had other sons and daughters. 20 Altogether, Jared lived a total of 962 years, and then he died.

21 When Enoch had lived 65 years, he became the father of Methuselah. 22 After he became the father of Methuselah, Enoch walked faithfully with God 300 years and had other sons and daughters. 23 Altogether, Enoch lived a total of 365 years.24 Enoch walked faithfully with God; then he was no more, because God took him away.

25 When Methuselah had lived 187 years, he became the father of Lamech. 26 After he became the father of Lamech, Methuselah lived 782 years and had other sons and daughters. 27 Altogether, Methuselah lived a total of 969 years, and then he died.

28 When Lamech had lived 182 years, he had a son. 29 He named him Noah[c] and said, “He will comfort us in the labor and painful toil of our hands caused by the ground the Lord has cursed.” 30 After Noah was born, Lamech lived 595 years and had other sons and daughters. 31 Altogether, Lamech lived a total of 777 years, and then he died.

32 After Noah was 500 years old, he became the father of Shem, Ham and Japheth.  Genesis 5:1-32

In Chapter 5 of Genesis we are given the continued line of Adam which would also be the line that would lead to the birth of Jesus Christ.  Everything placed in God’s word is importance and has been put their for a specific reason.

God has an appointed time when people will live and when they will die.  Each of those listed in chapter five had an appointed time in which they would walk upon the earth.  Couple of important take aways are how long the people lived upon the earth before the flood that came during the day of Noah.

Many of them lived almost for one thousand years and we can see that living that long upon the earth would cause the earth to be filled with people.  Even though during these genealogies it pointed to the person who would be born by the person listed.  It is important to realize that wasn’t the only descendant created by that person.

They had other sons and daughters and we see this in Adam alone that after Adam had Seth that he continued to have other sons and daughters.  Another important dynamic this created was that the truth of what happened during the fall of Adam and Eve was passed down from generation to generation.  Because of how long Adam lived he would have the opportunity to share first hand knowledge of what the garden was like and what happened during the fall.

Another important part of this genealogy is the mention of Enoch.  Enoch was the seventh from Adam and his place in this genealogy is not by mistake or chance.  The number seven in the bible stands for fullness or completion.  Enoch faithfully walked with the Lord and we know from Jude 14-16 that Enoch was a preacher of righteousness who spoke for the Lord.  Beside Elijah, Enoch was the only other man in the word of God who never tasted death but was taken home by the Lord.

But through each generation the hand of God guided those who were born on the earth so that one day Jesus Christ would be born.  It is also interesting the most of those listed had children born to them around 100 years old but Noah did not have children until he was 500 years old.  Noah would be God’s man for the hour.  He would be chosen by the Lord simply because he was a faithful man of God who simply was willing to be used by the Lord.  Even though many would call Noah a fool for building the ark, his faithfulness made it possible for the human race to continue and one day for Jesus to be born upon the earth.

Often times in scripture when we see a genealogy listed we will quickly gloss over the names listed.  But in every genealogy listed the Lord demonstrates His faithfulness, grace, and power.  It is by the grace and power of God that the plans and purposes of God are fulfilled upon the earth.  No matter how hard the enemy tries he will never be able to stop or hinder the plans and purposes of the Lord.  May we be diligent students of God’s word and be willing to study the whole council of God’s word.

1 John 2:28-29: And now, little children, abide in Him

28 And now, little children, abide in Him, that when[f] He appears, we may have confidence and not be ashamed before Him at His coming. 29 If you know that He is righteous, you know that everyone who practices righteousness is born of Him.  1 John 2:28-29

We are told multiple times in God’s word to abide in Him.  The Lord is coming soon and He is coming for a bride who is spotless and without blemish.  He is returning for a people who daily prepare their hearts for His soon return.  The apostle John speaks of having confidence at His returning and not being ashamed.  The only reason we would be ashamed is if we were spending our days living in sin.

Jesus has called us to a life of righteousness and obedience.  His righteousness is applied to our lives when we come to faith in Him which enables us to draw near to God with confidence and without fear.  But we are also called to live our that righteousness on a daily basis.  The fruit of the Holy Spirit should fill our lives and this is only possible as we abide in Him.

We are transformed from the inside out and it is impossible to be transformed if we are failing to abide in Him.  A decision to follow Christ is a decision to give Him our lives.  It is not a decision to casually follow Christ or only draw near to God when we desire to have a good time or fun.  There is a great price to be paid in following Jesus.  But as we abide in Him it is the Holy Spirit who will enable us to do all things.

1 John 2:26-27: I write these things to you about those who are trying to deceive you

26 I write these things to you about those who are trying to deceive you. 27 But the anointing that you received from him abides in you, and you have no need that anyone should teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about everything, and is true, and is no lie—just as it has taught you, abide in him.  1 John 2:26-27

John’s letter of first John is a letter to deal with false teaching.  John says that he writes these things about those who are trying to deceive you.  It is important for us to understand the importance of abiding daily in the Lord.  We live in a world filled with lies and deception and they only way to navigate through this world of darkness and deception is to know the truth of God’s word.

God has given us an anointing.  It is the Holy Spirit who will lead and guide us into all truth.  As we develop deep intimacy with the Holy Spirit each day, it is the Holy Spirit who will teach us and help us to discern truth.  Many have been deceived because they have simply accepted the words of mere men.  But we have God’s word for a reason.  It guards our hearts against the schemes of the enemy.  Every thing the enemy does is based upon lie and deception.

God has given us a freewill and given us a responsibility.  To simply make a decision to follow Christ is only the beginning.  We are called to be disciples and a disciple walks with the Lord on a daily basis.  May we heed the warnings of God’s word and understand the seriousness of sin and the destruction that follows.  So many today don’t believe in God nor believe in sin.  But when a person opens their heart up to sin and continues to indulge in it, it will destroy them from the inside out.  Here what the Spirit of the Lord is saying this day.  Flee from the darkness of this world and draw near to the Lord with all your heart.

1 John 2:18-19: Children, it is the last hour.

18 Children, it is the last hour, and as you have heard that antichrist is coming, so now many antichrists have come. Therefore we know that it is the last hour.19 They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us. But they went out, that it might become plain that they all are not of us.  1 John 2:18-19

In God’s word the Lord continually warns us against false teaching, false teachers, lies and deceptions.  The apostle John writes of this being the last hour.  The last hour includes all the time of the church age.  There is coming a day in which the Lord shall return for His bride.  At that time He will remove her from the earth.  After the bride has been removed the judgement of the Lord shall be poured out that is written of in the book of Revelation.

John speaks of the antichrist who is coming and many antichrist who have come.  The antichrist will be a great receiver who will proclaim himself to be the savior of the world, but in the end will deceive those who give him their allegiance and will lead them into destruction.  The same stands for the antichrist John speaks of having come.  False teachers would continually try to come in and deceive the sons and daughters of God and it was the role of the apostles to bring correction and to guard the purity of God’s truth.  They were commissioned by the Holy Spirit to write the Holy Scriptures through the inspiration and leading of the Holy Spirit.

The greatest way that we can guard our hearts against false teaching is to know the word of God.  When we have a deep understanding of the truth of God’s word we will recognize that which is false and not true.  Those who are deceived are those who ignore diligently studying the scriptures.  The greatest investment we can make on this earth is in the diligent study of God’s word and in the place of prayer.  That which is sown into the spirit will never be done in vain, but in due time we shall reap a great harvest.

1 John 1:9

9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9

The Lord is faithful and just to forgive us of our sins. He has not called us to be perfect, He has called us to abide in Him each day. Walking with Him in all things, diligently studying His word and making our lives a house of prayer.

In this life we will fall short and we will make mistakes, but understanding the grace and mercy of God is key to walking in victory and freedom. When we do fall short we are able to go before the Lord, confess our sin and seek His forgiveness. But as we grow in maturity with Christ the sin and desires of the flesh that once dominated our lives, no longer dominate our lives.

So many have misconceptions of who the Lord is. Many believe God to be this angry tyrant in Heaven who desires to punish us when we fall short. But if we continue in disobedience and rebellion the Lord will surely discipline us. But in every mistake the Lord desires to teach us of His kingdom, His love, His grace, and who He is. May we focus our hearts daily upon God’s word and prepare our hearts for His soon return.

Romans 13:6

Pay your taxes, too, for these same reasons. For government workers need to be paid. They are serving God in what they do.

Romans 13:6 NLT

There is a purpose behind paying taxes.  God has placed people in positions of leadership and authority to keep order.  He raises up kings and He tears them down.  Everything happening upon this earth is the fulfillment of His sovereign will.  As believers in Jesus Christ we are called to pay taxes to those who are in government.  We are not called to rebel against those in government, no matter our personal feelings on who is in leadership.  If the government of our nation commands us to do something that is contradictory to the Lord, we are called to obey the Lord.  But we are called to live with the integrity and character of Christ.  We are not called to be deceitful and we need to understand we are also called to pray for those in leadership and government.  May we simply be obedient to the Lord and His word.  He is coming soon.

Brought near by the blood of Jesus

11 Therefore remember that you, once Gentiles in the flesh—who are called Uncircumcision by what is called the Circumcision made in the flesh by hands— 12 that at that time you were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world. 13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.  Ephesians 2:11-13

It is by the blood of Jesus alone that we are able to draw near unto God.  Before we come to Christ we are enslaved to sin.  We are driven by the desires of our sinful nature believing that they will satisfy us.  But what we fail to understand is that as we indulge in sin more and more it deceptively destroys our life.  It seems enjoyable for a season, but if we continue in sin we will eventually be destroyed.

But through the blood of Jesus we are set free from the curse of sin and death.  When we come to Christ our sin no longer remains.  It is washed away and we are declared righteous before our Father in Heaven.  Our sins have been nailed to the cross with our savior and often times the enemy will try to remind us of our sins to bring condemnation upon us.  But this is why we must fix our eyes upon Jesus alone.

When we truly understand the depth of the Lord’s sacrifice for us we will draw near with our whole heart.  Jesus has called us to be disciples and not merely converts.  We must become a diligent student of God’s word and study His word on a daily basis.  His word is the spiritual food for our life with Him.  If we neglect the study of God’s word we will be led astray and deceived by the wiles of the enemy.

The enemy is a defeated foe, but he is very cunning.  In our own strength and wisdom we are powerless against him.  But if we will abide in our Lord and Savior we will walk in victory and authority because we will understand who we are in Christ.  We will understand the authority we have and the freedom we have.  The reason many perish is simply lack of knowledge of God’s biblical truth.  Many believe the bible to simply be a book of fairy tales or simply foolishness.  But when we come to know Him and all He has done for us, we understand the treasure that His word is and we are willing to dedicate our lives to the study of His word.

I called on the Lord in distress

I called on the Lord in distress;
The Lord answered me and set me in a broad place.
The Lord is on my side;
I will not fear.
What can man do to me?
The Lord is for me among those who help me;
Therefore I shall see my desire on those who hate me.
It is better to trust in the Lord
Than to put confidence in man.
It is better to trust in the Lord
Than to put confidence in princes.  Psalms 118:5-9

The Lord is our strong tower.  In this life we will face trials and tribulations but we are called to draw near to the Lord and call upon the Lord for help.  Often times the Lord will allow us to go through things to bring us to a deeper place of maturity.  Especially in America it is very easy to be comfortable in the nation that we live in.  We don’t face the level of opposition that many of our brothers and sisters face around the world.

If we will abide in Him daily we will find that we walk in a constant place of His peace.  The reason many struggle is they only turn to the Lord and in prayer when they are faced with an emergency.  They turn to the Lord when they are surrounded on every side, but when things begin to level out and they find their proper footing they become distracted and lose tract of the Lord.  They become very lazy in their walk with Christ and as a result when another trial comes they see it as an emergency when in fact it is simply a trial and a chance to grow.

The Lord will sustain us by His power and His grace.  Being covered by the blood of Christ we have full access to the throne of God.  Before we come to Christ we are not able to draw near because our sin separates us from Almighty God.  But when we come to Christ our sins are washed away and we are declared in right standing before the Lord.  Because of faith alone we are able to draw near to our Father in Heaven.

Let us not live in fear, but let us grab hold of the authority and power we have through Jesus and walk as overcomers upon the earth.  The key to all things is focusing our hearts upon Jesus.  When our minds are focused upon Jesus we will naturally walk in victory because we will have the mind of Christ.  The truth is Jesus is the ultimate champion.  He has conquered all things and holds all authority in His hands.  As the body of Christ we are an extension of the Lord’s hands and feet upon the earth and because of this we have authority and must operate in that place of authority.

We must be a people of love

Finally, all of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous;

1 Peter 3:8 NKJV

When the focus of our lives and all that we do becomes the love of Christ we will fulfill the plans and purposes our Father in Heaven has for us.  For too long the people of God have been divided because we have based our lives on the traditions and wisdom of man.  The truth is that when you really examine the gospels and the word of God as a whole you see that the foundation is love.  When we are a people who are solely driven by the love of Christ we will be free of offense and our only desires will be to see the Kingdom of our God advanced.  For too long there have been those who have used the name of Jesus to build their own kingdoms on the earth.  This has left a string of victims and broken people in the process. But in these last days the Lord is restoring all that the enemy has stolen.  He is using everything the enemy has meant for wickedness for the goodness of His people and the glory of His kingdom.  God is the ultimate chess player and everything that happens upon the earth happens in the framework of His sovereign will.  Many times people will ask why God allows tragedy to take place.  But the truth is that He has given us freewill and because of this humans are responsible for the choices they make.  But within all of this the Lord is ordering every step and is preparing the earth for the rule and reign of His Son.

Before Jesus comes to establish His kingdom there will be a great tribulation that will take place on the earth.  We see the birth pangs of this as we see many pieces that are being put in place now with the rise of the Islamic State and the nation of Russia.  There will come a time when Russia and the Islamic nations will rise against the nation of Israel and this will prepare the way for the Anti-Christ to sign a peace accord with the nation of Israel, they believing him to be the messiah.  But they will come to see when he sets up the abomination of desolation in the temple that he is indeed not the messiah.  But we have nothing to fear in these times.  They have been ordered from the foundation of time.

We must always remember that the Lord is the creator of all things and this includes time.  Before He created the angels and before He created anything, He was.  He is eternal and He stands outside of time.  We who live in this world and in the natural realm live within time.  Many times this is why it seems the Lord takes forever to move, when in fact His timing is perfect every time.  Everything that is happening now has been ordained and we are simply called to seek Him and make our focus Jesus the author and perfecter of our faith.

When we focus on Jesus we see that He is indeed the definition of love.  It is said in God’s word that true love is one who would lay down His life for His friends.  He demonstrated true love at Calvary when He allowed His body to be beaten beyond recognition and to be crucified upon a cross for all the world to see.  So many times we allow things that have no eternal value to capture the focus of our lives.  If we would simply make Christ the focus and seek first His kingdom we would walk in the freedom He has destined us for.
