20 But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, 21 keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting anxiously for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to eternal life. Jude 20-21
We are called to build ourselves us in our most holy faith and to pray in the Holy Spirit. What does it mean to pray in the Holy Spirit? To pray in the Holy Spirit simply means to pray forth as the Holy Spirit gives us utterance. When we are baptized in the Holy Spirit a sign that we have been baptized in the Holy Spirit is that we speak forth in other tongues.
This heavenly language we are given is our prayer language and as we spend more and more time praying in the Spirit, we grow in our prayer life. The Holy Spirit knows the perfect will of our Father in Heaven and because our understanding is limited we need the help of the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit gives us utterance and as we pray forth in our unknown tongue we pray forth the perfect will of God. We are vessels for God’s glory and we are temples of the Holy Spirit. When God created all things He did so by speaking forth. Today we who have been created in the image of God have been called to speak forth His will into the earth. This takes place in prayer and this is why prayer is so powerful because it is through prayer that we give birth to the plans and purposes of God. As we pray they are birthed in the spiritual realm and when they have reached full growth and God’s due time they are brought forth upon the earth.
This is why praying in the Spirit is so important. Our understanding is limited and when we pray in our understanding our prayers are limited as far as their scope is concerned. But when we pray forth in the Spirit our prayers touch every aspect of life according to the perfect will of God because it is the Holy Spirit who is giving us utterance and guiding our prayers.
We are co-laborers with Christ. God has given us gifts and talents to accomplish His plans and purposes upon the earth. To reject the baptism of the Holy Spirit and the gifts of the Holy Spirit is simply foolish. There are some who reject the baptism of the Holy Spirit simply out of pride. They can’t understand it with their minds and therefore they reject it. But just like salvation, you will not understand the baptism of the Holy Spirit unless you take a step of obedience and open your heart and receive.
Today may we be obedient to all the Holy Spirit desires to do in our lives. He is not a force or a thing, He is a person and the third person of the God head. He is equal with the Father and the Son and may we honor Him in all we do. May we open our churches to allow the Holy Spirit to be in control and simply lead us to complete the plans and purposes of the Lord upon the earth.
