4 This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created, when the Lord God made the earth and the heavens.
5 Now no shrub had yet appeared on the earth[a] and no plant had yet sprung up,for the Lord God had not sent rain on the earth and there was no one to work the ground, 6 but streams[b] came up from the earth and watered the whole surface of the ground. 7 Then the Lord God formed a man[c] from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.
8 Now the Lord God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there he put the man he had formed. 9 The Lord God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground—trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
10 A river watering the garden flowed from Eden; from there it was separated into four headwaters. 11 The name of the first is the Pishon; it winds through the entire land of Havilah, where there is gold. 12 (The gold of that land is good; aromatic resin[d] and onyx are also there.) 13 The name of the second river is the Gihon; it winds through the entire land of Cush.[e] 14 The name of the third river is the Tigris; it runs along the east side of Ashur. And the fourth river is the Euphrates.
15 The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. 16 And the Lord God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; 17 but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.”
18 The Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.”
19 Now the Lord God had formed out of the ground all the wild animals and all the birds in the sky. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name. 20 So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds in the sky and all the wild animals.
But for Adam[f] no suitable helper was found. 21 So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs[g] and then closed up the place with flesh. 22 Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib[h] he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.
23 The man said,
“This is now bone of my bones
and flesh of my flesh;
she shall be called ‘woman,’
for she was taken out of man.”
24 That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.
25 Adam and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame. Genesis 2:4-25
Man was created from the dust of the ground. It was the Lord God who breathed into Adam and gave him life. God alone is the creator of all things and has created man in His image. When man looks at creation he must come to a conclusion. He either believes that indeed all that he sees is created and has a creator. Or man believes that this some how came by accident or chance. But when you examine to complexity of life and creation it is pure foolishness to reject the existence of God and He alone being the creator of all things.
God placed Adam in the Garden of Eden and in that garden the Lord placed many different trees that were pleasing to the eye. In the middle of the garden God placed the tree of life and the tree of knowledge of good and evil. God has to give man a choice because He gave man freewill. Love cannot exist without choice and freewill. It was not God’s desire that man would be forced to love God, but to choose to love God. This is why what Jesus did at Calvary was incredible. He chose to lay down His life because of His love for us. Even though we rejected Him, because of His love for us He chose to die for us.
The Lord placed a river in the garden of Eden that would water the garden. This river would break off into four head rivers that would water the land. These four rivers can be seen today if you go onto any map and look at their location in the middle east.
The Lord placed man in the garden and had him steward and take care of the garden. God told Adam he could eat of any tree except the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. God was very clear that if Adam ate of this tree that he would surely die. God was very clear with Adam and in giving Adam choice and freewill, Adam had the ability to obey or rebel. The choice still stands for each person on the earth. Every person has a freewill to choose God and His ways or to live in rebellion and seek after the ways of the world.
It is incredible that in the garden of Eden Adam was told that he could eat of all trees except one. Today we who are on the earth are told by Jesus that there is only one way to Heaven and that is through Him alone. Jesus said that broad is the road that leads to destruction and many will walk on it. But narrow is the road that leads to life and few will find it.
God sees Adam in the garden and sees that it is not good for Adam to be alone. God has created us to live in relationship. Not only with God but with others. God began by creating animals and birds from the ground and they were brought to Adam to be named by Adam. When God created Adam, He created him with authority over all creation because Adam was created in the image of God. But when Adam sinned he lost their authority he had when he was deceived by Satan.
God saw that all the animals and the birds were not suitable companions for Adam. For the animals and the birds were not created in the image of God. So God caused Adam to fall into a deep sleep and from Adam’s rib God created woman. She was brought to Adam by God and Adam named her woman because she was taken from part of Adam. It is important to see that number one Adam named woman showing that Adam still had ultimate authority. The other thing that is important is the word woman. We live in a culture that desires to empty culture of all masculinity and rid our vocabulary of the word man. But this attack of our culture on masculinity today is simply demonic in nature and the whole strategy of political correctness is a demonic strategy to paralyze and silence people. We need to know God’s word and understand the power of words.
The Lord sets the president for marriage when the Lord states that a man shall leave his father and mother and be united to his wife and become one flesh. God’s created order is that man would marry woman and they would become one. The culture and world we live in which is based upon the lies and deceptions of Satan has tried to distort God’s design and definition of marriage. But God’s design for marriage is between a man and woman.
Before sin entered the human race Adam and Eve felt no shame. Even though both were naked they didn’t understand they were naked. For they were created perfect without any blemish. It wasn’t until Adam and Eve ate of the tree of knowledge of good and evil that they understood they were naked. It wasn’t until sin entered the human race that shame entered the human race.
