1 John 3:13-15: Do not be surprised, my brothers and sisters, if the world hates you

13 Do not be surprised, my brothers and sisters, if the world hates you. 14 We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love each other. Anyone who does not love remains in death. 15 Anyone who hates a brother or sister is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life residing in him.  1 John 3:13-15

The world hates us because we represent Jesus Christ.  Those who live according to the ways of the world are blinded by Satan and his deceptions.  Satan hates God with everything that is within him and hates every follower of Jesus Christ.  But we are not called to hate those who hate us.  We are called to love them and pray for them.  They are simply blinded by Satan and his ways.

We have passed from death to life because in Christ we are born again.  We have died with Christ and we have been risen with Him to new life.  Through Christ we are able to draw near to God with confidence and boldness.  As we draw near and spend time in God’s presence we are changed and transformed by His power and His grace.  As we are transformed His love fills our hearts and enables us to love all those who surround us.  It is impossible to claim to follow Christ and not remain in His love.  It is only those who fail to abide in Christ daily that do not remain in His love.

If we truly hate our brother and sister there is a true issue that exist in our hearts.  Those who allow jealousy and bitterness to rule their hearts are those who fail to draw near to Christ.  It is impossible to remain in bitterness and jealousy when we draw near to the Lord because the conviction of the Holy Spirit will not allow it to remain.  When we draw near to the Lord any darkness that exist within us will be exposed.  May we draw near daily and be transformed by His grace, mercy, and love.
