Trouble and distress have come upon me

Trouble and distress have come upon me, but your commands give me delight.

Psalm 119:143 NIV

It is God’s word that sustains us.  It is very easy when we feel overwhelmed to become isolated from everything, including our relationship with God.  But in the midst of a trial we must draw near to the Lord and read and meditate upon His promises for us.  He will strengthen us and sustain us.  He has not called us to try to overcome anything in our own strength.  In fact He has called us to trust Him and rely on Him for everything.

God allows trials into our lives for a reason.  If this journey with Christ was a comfortable one we would often fail to draw near.  We would simply become self-consumed and a relationship with the Lord wouldn’t exist.  But it is often in those moments in life when we feel overwhelmed that we need the Lord the most.  It is in those moments when we draw near that the Lord wraps His arms around us and carries us.
