But if you refuse to serve the Lord, then choose today whom you will serve. Would you prefer the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates? Or will it be the gods of the Amorites in whose land you now live? But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord.”
We must choose on a daily basis who we will serve. When we come to faith in Jesus Christ that is only the beginning. On a daily basis we face spiritual battles of all kinds. We are tempted daily to return to the ways of the world and along the way our lives will be filled with challenges and trials that are meant to refine and mature us.
Like Joshua we must choose to serve the Lord. When we choose to follow Christ the world will call us a fool, but we must remember that this world is temporary and our eternal home is in heaven. Someday we will rule and reign with Jesus in His kingdom. Until that time may we walk with the Lord in deep intimacy and remove all things from our lives that would hinder our relationship with the Lord.
