1 Have mercy on me, O God,
because of your unfailing love.
Because of your great compassion,
blot out the stain of my sins.
2 Wash me clean from my guilt.
Purify me from my sin. Psalm 51:1-2
David wrote this Psalm after his sin with Bathsheba and then having her husband Uriah killed to cover up his sin by having Joab place Uriah at the front of the battle and then pulling the troops back. David thought he had covered up his sin and that no one would find out. But the Lord sent Nathan the prophet to confront David about his sin and David repented before the Lord and sought the Lord’s forgiveness.
What set David apart from many of the kings throughout Israel’s history is that David never worshiped false gods and David when confronted with his sin repented before the Lord instead of persecuting the prophets of the Lord.
But the God we serve is filled with grace, love, and mercy. His love for us is unfailing and is far greater than we even understand. May we draw near each day and grow in the love of Christ. May we fall in love with Jesus more and more each day. He is coming soon and may we be vessels of His glory while we have time upon this earth.
