Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have[a] peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. 3 And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; 4 and perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5 Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us. Romans 5:1-5
We are justified by faith. When our faith is placed in Jesus Christ, His righteousness is applied to us. There is nothing that separates us from God and therefore we have peace with Him. Jesus has made it possible for us to draw near. Our sin no longer remains.
We have access by grace because of faith. There are some who still believe that what we have in Christ is based on works. This is a demonic and deceptive doctrines. Works are a natural result of true faith, but salvation and God’s favor is not based upon works. God’s grace, which is His unmerited favor is based upon faith alone.
We are called to glory in tribulations because it is tribulations we face that produce the character of Christ within us. It is impossible to grow in maturity without tribulations and trials. The more difficult the trial, the deeper the work the Lord is performing. But through it all He has called us to trust Him. No matter what we see with our eyes we must walk by faith and not by sight.
As we grow in our relationship with Christ hope is produced within us. This hope is in the love of God. God will never forsake us nor abandon us. God’s love for us is not based on our works nor our performance. His love for us is not based upon our behavior. His love for us is based upon our faith in Jesus Christ. When our faith is placed in Jesus Christ we are adopted into God’s family. The separation that existed because of sin has been washed away. Our spirits which were dead to God is made alive once again by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Everything we have in Christ is based upon our faith in who He is and what He has done. He is the Son of God who has given His life for our sins. He is the Son of God who has overcome the grave and rose from the dead. When our faith is placed in Jesus Christ there is nothing that separates us from His love and from His presence. May we simply draw near with our whole heart.
