Therefore become imitators of God [copy Him and follow His example], as well-beloved children [imitate their father]; 2 and walk continually in love [that is, value one another—practice empathy and compassion, unselfishly seeking the best for others], just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and sacrifice to God [slain for you, so that it became] a sweet fragrance. Ephesians 5:1-2
We are called to be imitators of God. We know from the living example of Jesus that God is full of love, grace, and mercy. It is impossible to claim to follow Christ and not be filled and do all things in love. If we claim to be in Christ we become living vessels of His glory to bring glory and honor to His name.
As sin and wickedness increases in the world, the love of most will continue to grow cold. What will draw people to Jesus Christ in this hour is the love of Christ alive and well in the hearts of God’s people. As we spend time daily in prayer and the study of God’s word our lives are transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit.
It is impossible to walk in the love of Christ in our own strength. This is why we have been given the Holy Spirit. He is our comforter and our helper. He empowers us in all things and leads and guides us into all truth. But the distinguishing mark of any follower of Jesus Christ is the love of God filling our lives. We are called to be holy as He is holy and this only happens as we draw near each day and abide in Him.
