Isaiah 48:17-19: Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer

17 Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer,
The Holy One of Israel:
“I am the Lord your God,
Who teaches you to profit,
Who leads you by the way you should go.
18 Oh, that you had heeded My commandments!
Then your peace would have been like a river,
And your righteousness like the waves of the sea.
19 Your descendants also would have been like the sand,
And the offspring of your body like the grains of sand;
His name would not have been cut off
Nor destroyed from before Me.”  Isaiah 48:17-19

The Lord is our redeemer.  It is impossible for us to save ourselves or restore any area of our lives.  Because we are born into sin we are separated from God.  But God in His mercy and His grace has sent His Son to take the punishment we deserve and has made the way possible for us once again to have deep intimacy with Him.

The Lord is the one who leads and guides us in all things.  Where we often fail and make a mistake is we try to walk according to our own wisdom and understanding.  Our wisdom is short sighted and will always cause us to go off track.  But if we do all things according to the wisdom of the Lord and the leading of the Holy Spirit, the Lord will prosper us and bless us abundantly.  The reason He blesses us is to be blessing to others.

It is vital that we heed the word of God and walk in obedience to it.  God has given us His word as the standard of all truth.  God’s word is His love letter to us revealing who He is and how He works in the lives of His sons and daughters.  There is great peace that is found in simply living according to God’s word and the leading of the Holy Spirit.  For the peace of God is beyond human understanding.  It is tangible and will sustain us in all things.  But if we fail to live according to God’s word then we fail to walk in His peace.

Those who live in rebellion and unbelief will miss out on all that God has for them.  Blessing is only found in obedience.  We cannot expect to continue to live in rebellion and unbelief and expect the blessing of the Lord upon our lives.  God will never affirm the wickedness that is found within us.  If we continue in wickedness, then like a loving Father He will bring discipline and correction.  When the Lord brings discipline and correction it is to humble us and bring us to a place where we will listen and heed His voice.  This journey with Jesus is about follow Him and giving every area of our lives over to Him.
