Mark 8:34-38 When He had called the people to Himself, with His disciples also, He said to them, “Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it. For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him the Son of Man also will be ashamed when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.”
Jesus made it clear that if we are going to follow Him then we must be willing to give Him our whole lives. There is a false gospel that exist that states you can claim to follow Christ and still love the world and be part of the world. It is contradictory to the truth of the Bible.
If we are to truly follow Christ as He commands then we must turn from the world and pursue the Lord alone. This may mean that we may lose friends, family members, and be hated by many. But there is something supernatural that takes place when we begin to walk intimately with Jesus. Our hearts and minds become one with His and our sole desire becomes to know Him.
The more time we spend with Jesus the more He becomes our obsession. To call following Jesus a religion is false. It is a relationship that is living and life changing. Jesus is alive today and though we cannot see Him doesn’t mean He is not with us.
We live in a world that is consumed with self and so many have compromised the gospel to appeal to the culture of the day. They are more concerned with the size of a church than they are with preaching the purity of the gospel. Preaching the purity of the gospel will never make us popular on this earth, but we will be greatly honored in Heaven.
We need to stop trying to entertain people into God’s kingdom. We need a return to the purity of God’s word. If the whole world chooses to reject it so what. True ministry is never measured by numbers. It is measured by our ability to simply preach the truth. May we hold fast to God’s word and honor the Lord with our lives.
