A great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars on her head. 2 She was pregnant and cried out in pain as she was about to give birth. 3 Then another sign appeared in heaven: an enormous red dragon with seven heads and ten horns and seven crowns on its heads. 4 Its tail swept a third of the stars out of the sky and flung them to the earth. The dragon stood in front of the woman who was about to give birth, so that it might devour her child the moment he was born. 5 She gave birth to a son, a male child, who “will rule all the nations with an iron scepter.”[a] And her child was snatched up to God and to his throne. 6 The woman fled into the wilderness to a place prepared for her by God, where she might be taken care of for 1,260 days. Revelation 12:1-6
The woman with a crown of twelve stars is the nation of Israel and the twelve stars represent the twelve nations of Israel. The male child who is born to rule the nations is Jesus Christ. When we examine the gospels we know that Jesus was born from the line of King David from the tribe of Judah.
The enormous red dragon is Satan and when he swept a third of the stars from the heaven that speaks to His rebellion in ages past in which he rebelled against God and His kingdom and in the process deceived a third of the angels in heaven to join him in his rebellion and today they serve satan upon the earth as demonic spirits.
When Jesus was born Satan attempted to destroy Jesus but Joseph took Jesus and Mary and fled to Egypt. During the time of the seven year tribulation Satan will desire to destroy the Jews that are left upon the earth but God has set apart a place for them for 3 and a half years to protect them until Jesus returns to establish His kingdom.
When studying the book of Revelation it is important to seek the Holy Spirit for wisdom and understanding. We should never rely upon our own wisdom or understanding because in the end we will end up misinterpreting the book of Revelation.
The book of Revelation is a fascinating study in things that are too come. There will come a day when the bride of Christ is called home and the judgement and wrath of God is poured out upon the earth. The seven year tribulation will be a time of great lawlessness upon the earth unlike it has never known. Let us share today the gospel with others as the Holy Spirit leads. God’s desire is that none would perish but all come to everlasting life. We are the body of Christ. We are an extension of His hands and His feet. May we be faithful in this hour of history.
