Bear with each other and forgive one another

13 Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. 14 And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.  Colossians 3:13-14

A key aspect of having unity in the body of Christ is doing all things in love and being willing to forgive.  Since the body of Christ is made up of people there are going to be many different issues.  There are going to be times when we are offended and injured by others and a tactic and scheme of the enemy is to use offense and injury to sow seeds of discord and disruption.

But if we are truly walking according to the Spirit then we will do all things in love and be willing to forgive.  The fruit of the Spirit is the character of Christ and if we take time to study of the gospels we see that Jesus did all things in love and was willing to forgive at all times.  Upon the cross He cried to His Father after being beaten and scarred beyond recognition “Father forgive them for they know not what they do”.

Walking in love and forgiveness is not something we can do in our own strength.  It can only be accomplished through the power and leading of the Holy Spirit.  For this to happen we must abide in the Lord daily and walk with Him through every moment.  As we spend time each day in prayer and the study of God’s word we will be transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit.
