Quick to listen

My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry,

James 1:19 NIV

We would save ourselves a lot of trouble if we would simply be quick to listen and slow to speak.  So often we desire to say what we have inside our hearts without taking time to listen to what someone else is saying.  But if we would take the time to listen to people and not merely hear them it would protect and guard us from many issues.

Often times anger takes place because of miscommunication.  A sign of true maturity is taking the time to truly listen to others.  What is amazing is when you begin to really listen to other people you begin to find out how often the Lord is speaking through others into our lives.  God leads us one step at a time and the reason many struggle in their relationship with God is they fail to listen.

Developing deep intimacy with the Lord requires us to get alone with Him and developing a ear that actually listens to what the Lord is saying.  There is so much He desires to share with us, but too often we are too distracted and too busy to listen.  We would save ourselves a lot of trouble and problems if we would merely listen.  May we have ears to hear when it comes to our relationship with the Lord.
