For the Lord is good

For the Lord is good and his love endures forever;
    his faithfulness continues through all generations.  Psalm 100:5

The Lord is good and He is faithful.  Discouragement is a natural aspect of the Christian journey.  When we follow the Lord we walk by faith and the enemy will bombard us at times with discouragement because of what we may see with our eyes.  The Lord has so designed our lives to increase our faith and to continue to bring us to a place of deep maturity.

This is why we are called not to lean on our own understanding.  Our own understanding is short sighted is based upon what we see in our current circumstances.  But we need to see beyond our circumstances and fix our eyes upon Jesus alone.  No matter how impossible the circumstance we are facing may seem it is not greater than the God we serve.

God is greater than any giant we face and any mountain we need to overcome.  We fall prey to discouragement when we focus only on the giants and the mountains before us.  But when our eyes are fixed upon Jesus we understand that He is moving in our circumstances.  He is working all things together for our good.  But the key is trusting Him in all circumstances.

The apostle Paul wrote the letters of Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, and Philemon from a prison cell.  These letters are rich with sound doctrine and when you consider the circumstances that Paul found himself in and the words that he wrote we truly see how remarkable his faith was.

What made the apostle Paul the man that he was, was his focus upon the cross of Jesus Christ.  He was focused on the grace provided through the cross and no matter what he faced the Lord’s strength was perfected in his weakness.  No matter what you face today simply fix your eyes upon Jesus alone.  As you bring all things before the Lord in prayer on a daily basis He will move in due time.  Never give up but continue to press on toward the high call in Christ Jesus.
