After this I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back the four winds of the earth to prevent any wind from blowing on the land or on the sea or on any tree. 2 Then I saw another angel coming up from the east, having the seal of the living God. He called out in a loud voice to the four angels who had been given power to harm the land and the sea: 3 “Do not harm the land or the sea or the trees until we put a seal on the foreheads of the servants of our God.” 4 Then I heard the number of those who were sealed: 144,000 from all the tribes of Israel.
5 From the tribe of Judah 12,000 were sealed,
from the tribe of Reuben 12,000,
from the tribe of Gad 12,000,
6 from the tribe of Asher 12,000,
from the tribe of Naphtali 12,000,
from the tribe of Manasseh 12,000,
7 from the tribe of Simeon 12,000,
from the tribe of Levi 12,000,
from the tribe of Issachar 12,000,
8 from the tribe of Zebulun 12,000,
from the tribe of Joseph 12,000,
from the tribe of Benjamin 12,000. Revelation 7:1-8
The question is who are the 144,000 witnesses? It is clear from scripture that the 144,000 are Jewish witnesses that the Lord seals and raises up during the tribulation period to minister the gospel throughout the earth. Once the rapture has taken place and the body bride of Christ is removed from the earth, the judgment of the Lord shall begin upon the earth.
But during this seven year tribulation period the Lord will raise up Jewish evangelist to take the gospel in the midst of judgment and those who are on the earth experiencing the judgement of the Lord will have the opportunity to turn their hearts to Jesus Christ. It was cost them their lives, but they will have the opportunity to be saved and not eternally lost.
We who are on the earth now are the bride of Christ and there is coming a day when the last trumpet shall sound and we shall be called home. Until that time comes we should be faithful to pray and seek the Lord and be used by Him where ever the Holy Spirit leads us to go.
Many today are distracted by the culture of our day. They are blinded to the truth and pursuing the darkness of this world. For anyone who rejects Jesus Christ they will spend all eternity separated from God. But there is a mighty harvest before us and we must continue to draw near to the Lord each day and be transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit.
A right understanding of scripture is important and a right understanding of the book of Revelation is very important. Much of what is written in the book of Revelation takes place during the tribulation period. From chapter 6 to until the Lord returns in chapter 19 are events that take place during the seven year tribulation. There are some who have a wrong understanding of Revelation and believe the bride of Christ will go through the tribulation.
But when we examine the whole of scripture it is very clear that time and again the Lord saves His people from His wrath and His judgement. Whether you look at the example of Lot being saved from the judgement of Sodom and Gomorrah or you examine Noah being saved in the ark with his family before judgement came through the flood. Time and again in scripture the Lord shows that His people are saved from judgement.
We today who are covered with the precious blood of Jesus are of an incredible value to our Father in Heaven. He has saved us by His grace and His mercy and He holds us in the palm of His hand. His desire is not to pour His wrath and judgement upon us for His wrath and judgment was poured upon Jesus at Calvary. So as we study the book of Revelation it is important to have a right understanding of when events will take place and not to interpret scripture according to the wisdom and understanding of man but to see all things and discern all things through the leading and guidance of the Holy Spirit.
