16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. 17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed [j]from faith to faith; as it is written, “[k]But the righteous man shall live by faith.” Romans 1:16-17
The apostle Paul was not ashamed of the gospel because he understood the power of the gospel. When the gospel is preached without compromise under the power and anointing of the Holy Spirit it has the power and ability to not only save but to transform a human life. All of us born into this world are born into darkness and sin. We are born separated from God, but through Jesus Christ we are born again and once again have a relationship with God. As believers we should never be ashamed or fearful to share the gospel. God loves people so very much and though at times we may be rejected, we are simply called to plant seeds. There is nothing greater than seeing a lost sinner turn their heart to Jesus Christ and become a child of the Living God.
Righteousness is not based upon works, behavior, or performance. Righteousness before Almighty God is based upon faith alone in Jesus Christ. The law of God was never meant to lead anyone to righteousness. The law of God was meant to reveal to man his need of a savior. It is impossible to keep the law and when we come to this understanding we understand that we need a savior and redeemer.
Jesus paid the ultimate price so that we could be free. Jesus did not come to destroy the law, He came to fulfill it so that He would become the perfect sacrifice for all humanity. Many reject Jesus Christ because of pride and their love for this world and the desires of the sinful nature. But for those who place their faith and trust in Jesus Christ they come to know true love and come to know God in a intimate way. One this earth the Lord walks with us through all things, but our lives will truly begin when we one day leave this earth and spend all eternity in God’s kingdom. May we never be ashamed of the gospel but simply live our lives as a living sacrifice to glorify and honor the name of Jesus.
