When He broke the third seal

When He broke the third seal, I heard the third living creature saying, “Come[c].” I looked, and behold, a black horse; and he who sat on it had a pair of scales in his hand. And I heard something like a voice in the center of the four living creatures saying, “A [d]quart of wheat for a [e]denarius, and three [f]quarts of barley for a [g]denarius; and do not damage the oil and the wine.”  Revelation 6:5-6

The third seal that is broken that releases God’s judgment upon the earth is world wide famine.  A denarius was a days wage and in this pronouncement of judgement it was only able to purchase a quart of wheat or three quarts of barley.  A pronouncement is also made not to damage the oil or the wine.

During the seven year tribulation the Lord will pour forth His judgement upon the earth and as the judgments begin they will increase in intensity as they move through the full twenty one judgments that shall be poured out upon the earth.  There are nations around the earth right now that are facing famine and as the Holy Spirit leads we must intercede for our brothers and sisters around the world who are facing these most difficult times.  We must also give as the Lord leads and provides opportunity.

But it is important when studying Revelation that the judgments that takes place happen during the seven year tribulation.  As we look at the world around us now we can see how many are turning their hearts either to the things of wickedness or the things of God’s kingdom.  The Lord is using all things now to prepare His bride for His return.  Many times when we face trials and challenges they are simply placed in our lives to bring us into a deeper relationship with God.
