Love is patient

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.  1 Corinthians 13:4-7

This portion of scripture is speaking of true love that is only found in God.  The love of God is pure and is much different than what the world thinks or speaks of as love.  We can as easily replace the word for love with the name Jesus.  Everything that is described as what love is is also a description of who Jesus is.  Jesus came to reveal who our Father in Heaven is.  When we see Jesus and everything He is we are looking at how our Father in Heaven is.

Everything  our Father in Heaven does in our lives is driven by His love for us.  His love for us is eternal and unconditional.  Our behavior and our performance does not change His love for us.  Some people are under a false belief that somehow our Father’s love for us changes if we make a mistake or walk in obedience.  His desire is that we would walk in obedience because He knows the great blessing and benefit of walking in obedience to His ways.  But His love for us is unchanging because it is simply based on who He is.

We can rest in the truth that our Father in Heaven loves us.  So many in the world today struggle in their relationship with God because they some how think God is angry at them.  They treat their relationship with Him as a performance treadmill.  That somehow if they do enough good things they will earn His love and favor.

But this is simply a lie and deception of Satan.  We are called to rest in Him and what He desires the most out of each of us is simply fellowship and intimacy.  He understands that if we spend time in His presence that our lives will be transformed and His purposes will be accomplished in our lives through the power of the Holy Spirit and His grace.

We need to simply draw near each day and abide.  As we abide in Him our lives will be transformed and the fruit of the Holy Spirit will be produced in our lives.  Each day we have with Him is a gift and as we draw near and rely fully upon Him He will strengthen us for all things.
