I called on the Lord in distress

I called on the Lord in distress;
The Lord answered me and set me in a broad place.
The Lord is on my side;
I will not fear.
What can man do to me?
The Lord is for me among those who help me;
Therefore I shall see my desire on those who hate me.
It is better to trust in the Lord
Than to put confidence in man.
It is better to trust in the Lord
Than to put confidence in princes.  Psalms 118:5-9

The Lord is our strong tower.  In this life we will face trials and tribulations but we are called to draw near to the Lord and call upon the Lord for help.  Often times the Lord will allow us to go through things to bring us to a deeper place of maturity.  Especially in America it is very easy to be comfortable in the nation that we live in.  We don’t face the level of opposition that many of our brothers and sisters face around the world.

If we will abide in Him daily we will find that we walk in a constant place of His peace.  The reason many struggle is they only turn to the Lord and in prayer when they are faced with an emergency.  They turn to the Lord when they are surrounded on every side, but when things begin to level out and they find their proper footing they become distracted and lose tract of the Lord.  They become very lazy in their walk with Christ and as a result when another trial comes they see it as an emergency when in fact it is simply a trial and a chance to grow.

The Lord will sustain us by His power and His grace.  Being covered by the blood of Christ we have full access to the throne of God.  Before we come to Christ we are not able to draw near because our sin separates us from Almighty God.  But when we come to Christ our sins are washed away and we are declared in right standing before the Lord.  Because of faith alone we are able to draw near to our Father in Heaven.

Let us not live in fear, but let us grab hold of the authority and power we have through Jesus and walk as overcomers upon the earth.  The key to all things is focusing our hearts upon Jesus.  When our minds are focused upon Jesus we will naturally walk in victory because we will have the mind of Christ.  The truth is Jesus is the ultimate champion.  He has conquered all things and holds all authority in His hands.  As the body of Christ we are an extension of the Lord’s hands and feet upon the earth and because of this we have authority and must operate in that place of authority.
