Seek good and not evil

14 Seek good and not evil,
That you may live;
So the Lord God of hosts will be with you,
As you have spoken.
15 Hate evil, love good;
Establish justice in the gate.
It may be that the Lord God of hosts
Will be gracious to the remnant of Joseph.  Amos 5:14-15

The blessing of the Lord is truly found in walking obedience.  The nation of Israel had a history of continuing to walk in rebellion.  The Lord sent them prophet after prophet, but the nation of Israel chose to seek the wicked things of this world.  When we examine the history of the church the same can be said of God’s people.

As followers of Jesus Christ we are called to abide in Him and walk in obedience.  The grace of God does not give us a license to sin and freedom to indulge in the wickedness of this world.  If we have truly given our hearts to Jesus Christ then the desire of our hearts will be the Lord alone.  We will flee the lust of the flesh and will seek after the Lord with our whole heart.

If we desire the Lord to pour out His blessing upon our lives then we must walk in obedience to the Holy Spirit.  If we fail to walk in obedience and instead seek the things of the flesh, instead of blessing our Father will discipline us because of His love for us.  He will allow us to experience the consequences of our actions.  When a child fails to experience the consequences of their actions they will fail to learn from their mistakes and their shortcomings.

The Lord desires to glorify His name through His sons and daughters.  He is seeking those who will seek Him with their whole heart.  When we seek Him with our whole heart and set aside every idol and everything that would hinder our relationship with God we become a vessel for God’s glory.
