Therefore, since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God. 2 Corinthians 7:1
When we examine God’s word we see that His word is filled with promises for us. God’s word is His love letter to us. It reveals who He is, how He operates in the lives of those who serve Him, and is filled with promises that we can build our lives upon. It is a foolish thing for anyone who would call themselves a Christian not to study the word of God diligently on a daily basis.
Because of the promises that we have from the Lord, and because of the sacrifice of Jesus at Calvary we should live lives that are marked by holiness. We do not live in holiness in our own strength. The Old Testament saints struggled with this because they were under the law and it is impossible to keep the law of God perfectly because if you break even one jot or tittle of the law, you are called a law breaker.
But under the new covenant which is through faith in Jesus Christ, we are able to live in holiness because of the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives. When we come to Christ we receive the Holy Spirit and as we open our hearts more and more to the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives the more we are transformed. Developing intimacy with the Holy Spirit is key for our lives reflecting who Jesus is. If we will simply abide in the Lord and draw near each day, we will walk in holiness and reflect Jesus in all things.
