How lovely is your dwelling place

How lovely is your dwelling place,
    Lord Almighty!
My soul yearns, even faints,
    for the courts of the Lord;
my heart and my flesh cry out
    for the living God.
Even the sparrow has found a home,
    and the swallow a nest for herself,
    where she may have her young—
a place near your altar,
    Lord Almighty, my King and my God.
Blessed are those who dwell in your house;
    they are ever praising you.  Psalm 84:1-4

King David had a heart after the Lord.  Everything within him desired to be in the Lord’s presence and draw near to the Lord.  One day we who are in Christ will spend all eternity in the Lord’s kingdom.  We will rule and reign with Him.  But until that time we have every opportunity to draw near to Him while we are on the earth and spend time in His presence.  There is nothing that separates us from the Lord when we are covered by the blood of Jesus.  Our righteousness is found in Christ alone and because of this I can draw near with confidence and pour my heart out to the Lord.

Christianity is an intimate relationship with the Living God.  There are many religions in the world that are based upon the wisdom of man and the lies of demons.  But we who are in Christ have the truth and we are not following a religion.  We have a covenant relationship based upon our faith in Jesus Christ.  Through placing our faith in Christ our sins are forgiven and we are no longer separated from God.

The amazing thing about drawing near to the Lord is that the more time we spend with Him, the more we become like Him.  As we spend time in prayer and the study of God’s word our hearts and minds are changed and transformed.  As our minds are transformed the Lord’s thoughts become our own and we walk in unbroken fellowship with Him.  There is no limit to how intimately we can walk with the Lord.

There are many on this earth who spend there lives on empty pursuits that have no eternal value.  But we who are in Christ must seek first God’s kingdom and His righteousness.  A day is coming when the Lord shall return with the trumpet call.  The bride shall go home and we who are on the earth today must spend our days daily preparing for the return of the Lord.  This only comes as we abide in Him and seek Him with our whole heart.
