20 But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, 21 keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. Jude 1:20-21
We build ourselves up in the Lord as we draw near to the Lord and spend time in intimate prayer and bible study. We must have time throughout the day set aside in which we get alone with the Lord and allow the Holy Spirit to minister to our hearts. The reason many fail to discern the leading and guidance of the Holy Spirit because they have not come to know His voice. We come to know the voice and leading of the Holy Spirit as we get alone with Him. As we get alone with the Lord we come to recognize and discern the voice of the Holy Spirit.
We can look at the simple example from marriage. If two people are married and they never spend time alone together and never share the things that are on their hearts, over time the marriage will break down and may eventually fall apart if steps are not taken to bring healing. The same exist in our relationship with God. If we make a decision to follow Jesus Christ but take no time to spend alone with the Lord, over time our relationship with God will begin to break down. Jesus has called us to abide in Him on a daily basis. This is simply making the decision to draw near each day. We cannot neglect the wonderful relationship we have with the Lord. We must press in each day and set aside all things that would hinder our relationship with Jesus Christ.
