And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him.
To abide simply means to remain. The relationship we have with Jesus Christ is a living every day relationship. It is not a one time decision that takes place during a church service. It is very sad that we have so cheapened salvation in our church services because we are simply concerned with numbers and the size of our churches.
But success in ministry has nothing to do with numbers or the size of our ministry. There are many ministries out there that are very large, but if you took time to truly examine them they are built on a very shallow foundation. The gospel has been compromised to allow people to feel comfortable in their sin while at the same time still claiming to serve Jesus Christ.
If we are truly abiding in Christ we will not be able to live in sin. If we are truly abiding in Christ we will be transformed into His image. It is impossible to walk closely with the Lord and continue to live a compromising life style. One of the greatest challenges facing the body of Christ today is simply preaching the truth without compromise. So many rely on the wisdom of man to build ministries and yes they may build ministries that outwardly look exciting and make it seem that many people are involved. But when closely examined it simply reveals they have been built on a false foundation.
When we build God’s kingdom on prayer and the uncompromising truth of God’s word we are building a ministry and church that will stand the test. It will be the Lord who will draw the people and it will be the Lord who builds it. We need to abandon the wisdom of man and embrace the leading and guidance of the Holy Spirit.
