For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ

“But why do you judge your brother? Or why do you show contempt for your brother? For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. For it is written: “ As I live, says the LORD, Every knee shall bow to Me, And every tongue shall confess to God.” So then each of us shall give account of himself to God. Therefore let us not judge one another anymore, but rather resolve this, not to put a stumbling block or a cause to fall in our brother’s way.”‭‭Romans‬ ‭14:10-13‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

All of us will stand before Jesus Christ someday. Believers will stand before Jesus and give an account of how they used the gifts and talents they were given by God for His kingdom. We will not be compared with our brothers and sisters. But the Lord will examine the condition of our hearts because nothing is hidden from Him.

Nonbelievers will stand before Jesus and they will give an account of rejecting the Lord throughout their lives. They will be cast into the Lake of Fire because they have no answer for their sin. It is only through faith in Jesus that we are forgiven. It is not God who sends them there, but they send themselves their because of their pride and arrogance seeing no need for a savior in their lives.

We are not called to judge one another. We are called to pray for one another. Now if we see our brother and sister living in sin we are to confront them. If they fail to heed the word of the Lord we are to bring along others with us as well. All is to be done in love. If the sinfulness of a mature believer is impacting immature believes then the elders of the church must confront the believers. If they refuse to repent they are to be cast out and turned over to Satan hoping that it will bring them back to repentance.

Many fail today to practice church discipline because they are afraid to offend. But in God’s word the our Lord and Savior has laid the grounds for church discipline in Matthew 18:15-17. This is not judging but is based upon a process that is led and guided by the Holy Spirit. Judging takes place in an attitude of pride and arrogance. Church discipline is done in an attitude of love and humility. Let us live each day soberly with the attitude and knowledge that our Lord and Savior may return today. Let us live our lives faithfully and use the gifts and talents we are given to glorify the name of Jesus.
