Whatever you do

23 Whatever you do [whatever your task may be], work from the soul [that is, put in your very best effort], as [something done] for the Lord and not for men, 24 knowing [with all certainty] that it is from the Lord [not from men] that you will receive the inheritance which is your [greatest] reward. It is the Lord Christ whom you [actually] serve.  Colossians 3:23-24

Our reward and our recognition comes from the Lord alone.  We are called to do all things with all our heart.  We are called to love the Lord thy God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength.  The reason we do this is simply because of the price that Jesus paid for us.  It is an incredible insult to the Lord to claim to follow after Him, yet give Him half hearted obedience.

There is nothing that we can hide from the Lord.  The very intentions of our heart are known to the Lord.  The problem often times is when people allow pride to take hold.  When we become driven by pride and a desire to elevate our own name we become blinded to many things and in the end if we fail to repent and do what is right, we fall flat on our face.

Being able to do all things with our whole heart is an outgrowth of our personal relationship with the Lord.  The key is the word relationship.  This is not a one time decision in which we decide to follow Christ, yet continue to live our lives the way we desire.  Jesus made it very clear that He is not only Savior, but He is Lord.  Lord means He is in control and our lives become His.  He has given us the gifts we have and they are to be used for His glory.  We only experience the abundant life that Jesus spoke of when we walk in obedience to His word and the leading of the Holy Spirit.
