Fasting was a major part of the life of Jesus while He walked the earth and it was a major part of the early church. Fasting is so important because it magnifies our sensitivity to the voice and leading of the Holy Spirit.
When we starve the nature of our flesh the leading and work of the Holy Spirit is intensified. We rely more and more upon the strength of the Lord. Our spiritual eyes and ears sharpen and we open our hearts to dreams, visions, and visitations.
The spiritual realm is more real then we even realize and our world is a reflection of what is taking place in the spiritual realm. Our prayers and fasting have a profound effect on what is released and bound into the natural realm.
If you have never faster before I would encourage you to begin with fasting a meal or two and then progress from there. Fasting in the beginning is uncomfortable but when you begin to experience the deep fellowship you have with the Lord it becomes part of who you are and desire to do it often.
An analogy is as if you place a blindfold on. Your eye sight is removed but you sense of hearing is heightened. I encourage you that if you desire to go to the very deep places with the Lord to make fasting apart of your journey with Him.
It is vital that when you would be eating or hungry to spend time in prayer and in God’s word. Remember prayer is simply a conversation between you and the Lord. What naturally happens is you begin to walk in a place of unbroken fellowship.
