“You are my Son; today I have become your Father”

For to which of the angels did God ever say,

“You are my Son;
    today I have become your Father”[a]?

Or again,

“I will be his Father,
    and he will be my Son”[b]?

And again, when God brings his firstborn into the world, he says,

“Let all God’s angels worship him.”[c]

In speaking of the angels he says,

“He makes his angels spirits,
    and his servants flames of fire.”[d]

But about the Son he says,

“Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever;
    a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom.
You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness;
    therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions
    by anointing you with the oil of joy.”[e]

10 He also says,

“In the beginning, Lord, you laid the foundations of the earth,
    and the heavens are the work of your hands.
11 They will perish, but you remain;
    they will all wear out like a garment.
12 You will roll them up like a robe;
    like a garment they will be changed.
But you remain the same,
    and your years will never end.”[f]

13 To which of the angels did God ever say,

“Sit at my right hand
    until I make your enemies
    a footstool for your feet”[g]?

14 Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?  Hebrews 1:5-14.

The writers of Hebrews makes it clear that there is a distinction between the angels of Heaven and the Son of God.  Jesus is the one who deserves our worship.  There have been those who have gotten caught up in the worship of angels.  The worship of angels is intriguing to some because they are supernatural beings.  But the truth is that they are created just like us.

We do not become angels when we die.  There are some who believe this but it is not true.  When we die we will have brand new bodies even though our spirits are already reborn while we are on the earth.  But Jesus is the only one who deserves our worship.  He sits at the right hand of the Father and Jesus will return to establish His millennial reign upon the earth.  Jesus reign upon the earth will be a physical reign and we who are part of the body of Christ will rule and reign with Him at that time.

It is important for us as believers in Jesus Christ to keep our hearts and minds focused upon Jesus.  He has already overcome the world, and it is Him alone who leads us to victory.  As we draw near to the Lord each day we grow in deeper intimacy with Him.  Yes we will face trials and tribulations, but we have nothing to fear because no matter what we face the Lord grace is sufficient and His strength made perfect in our weakness.  The bottom line is Jesus deserves all our praise and He alone is the one who we focus our hearts upon.

There is an important functions that angels play in the life of any believer.  They come along side and provide aide.  Even though we may not be able to see them they are ever present around us.  When we pray the angels of Heaven are strengthen and empowered to carry out the Father’s will upon the earth.  There is a continual war that is taking place between the angels of Heaven and Satan and his demonic horde.  But the thing to always remember is that only a third of the angels followed after Satan when he rebelled against God.  The bottom line is we have nothing to fear.  We simply need to keep our hearts and minds focused upon Jesus Christ and every time we go before the Lord in prayer the purposes and plans of Heaven are accomplished.
