26 Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. 27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.
28 Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done. 29 They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, 30 slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; 31 they have no understanding, no fidelity, no love, no mercy. 32 Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them. Romans 1:26-32.
When people reject the truth of who God is they are given over to the lust of the flesh. The unnatural relations that the apostle Paul writes here is homosexuality. When God created man and woman he created them distinct from one another. God in His word has set forth His ideal for marriage in which it is one man and one woman coming together in union, leaving the home of their father and mother and becoming one. The enemy has distorted all things in this world and that stands especially for sexual purity and morality.
The presence of evil in the world simply exist when the knowledge and the truth of who God is is rejected. Without God the only thing that remains is darkness. All people are as sheep and when light is not present, they will be deceived by darkness and led to do terrible things upon the earth. This is why it is so important for us as believers to keep our eyes fixed upon Jesus. It is very easy to get focused on the darkness of the world because it seems as if it is all around us. But if we keep our eyes focused upon Jesus, He will open our eyes to all that He is accomplishing and He will lead us to the place of prayer by the Holy Spirit.
Those who reject God and the truth of who He is do so out of pride and arrogance. When someone is presented with the gospel they need to first come to the place and recognize that they indeed are in need of a savior. But when someone does not believe they are a sinner and in need of a savior they will reject the truth of who Jesus is and what He has done. Let us pray daily for those in darkness and pray their hearts be softened and convicted and opened to receive and understand all that God has for them and all that Jesus has done.
