What it truly means to remain in Him

I am the true Vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit, He takes away; and every branch that continues to bear fruit, He [repeatedly] prunes, so that it will bear more fruit [even richer and finer fruit]. You are already clean because of the word which I have given you [the teachings which I have discussed with you]. Remain in Me, and I [will remain] in you. Just as no branch can bear fruit by itself without remaining in the vine, neither can you [bear fruit, producing evidence of your faith] unless you remain in Me. [b]I am the Vine; you are the branches. The one who remains in Me and I in him bears much fruit, for [otherwise] apart from Me [that is, cut off from vital union with Me] you can do nothing.  John 15:1-5 AMP

To remain in the Lord means to simply walk with Him each day.  He desires deep fellowship with us.  He desires for us to share our hearts with Him.  He desires to share our dreams with Him.  He simply desires for us to share our lives with Him.

He gave His life for us and all He asks of us is our lives.  When we examine the New Testament letters written by many of the early church fathers of the faith we see that they referred to themselves as bondservants of Jesus Christ.  They understood that their lives were redeemed at a very great price and that in giving their lives to Jesus meant that they gave all of themselves.

It is impossible to grow in our relationship with the Lord without walking with Him each day.  The enemy will do all that he can to keep us distracted or keep us too busy to spend time with Jesus.  But if we will make drawing near to Him the priority of our lives, He will transform us into a vessel of His glory.

We need to understand that growth in Christ is not a pleasant process.  The Lord compares it to a pruning process.  The more we grow in the Lord the more our lives and our hearts need to be pruned.  This often comes in the form of trials and challenges in which we trust the Lord in all things and simply walk with Him.

Today I promise you that if you will simply make time alone with the Lord the priority of your life that your life will never be the same.  Your heart and your mind will become one with His and supernaturally your life will align with God’s word and the leading of the Holy Spirit.  The key to a victorious Christian life that is filled with God’s peace and His freedom is simply remaining in Him on a daily basis.  The initial decision to follow Jesus is simply that an initial step.  But the Christian life is a journey that is simply lived one step at a time.
