9 When He (the Lamb) broke open the fifth seal, I saw underneath the altar the souls of those who had been slaughtered because of the word of God, and because of the testimony which they had maintained [out of loyalty to Christ].10 They cried in a loud voice, saying, “O Lord, holy and true, how long now before You will sit in judgment and avenge our blood on those [unregenerate ones] who dwell on the earth?” 11 Then they were each given a white robe; and they were told to rest and wait quietly for a little while longer, until the number of their fellow servants and their brothers and sisters who were to be killed even as they had been, would be completed. Revelation 6:9-11.
One of the aspects of the tribulation period is the mass number of people who will be martyred for turning to Jesus Christ world wide. Today we see many who are being martyred for their faith. But during the time of the tribulation this will intensify greatly.
Those who are martyred during the tribulation are those who place their faith and trust in Jesus Christ during the tribulation period. The church has been raptured but it is the desire of the Father that none should perish. Throughout the tribulation period the Lord will give people an opportunity to repent and receive Him as Lord and savior, but it will come at the price of their own lives.
As we walk through the book of Revelation we will see many of the things the Lord does to reach out to those upon the earth. The judgment of God upon the earth is not only to deal with the wickedness of humanity, but turn the hearts of those to the Lord. Let us seek the Lord daily and diligently as we prepare for His return. He is returning very soon.
