“So then, in everything treat others the same way you want them to treat you, for this is [the essence of] the Law and the [writings of the] Prophets.
We are called to treat others as we desire them to treat us. The foundation of this is simply love. For if we simply love others as Christ first loved us we will never go wrong. When we examine the law and the writings of the prophets, what Jesus is referring to is the entirety of the Old Testament.
Jesus was asked during His earthly ministry what was the greatest commandment and our Lord responded by saying that the first was the love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, soul, mind, and strength, and the second is to love thy neighbor as ourselves. It is clear from scripture how we are to treat others.
Jesus said that people would know His disciples by their love. It is the love of Christ within our hearts that sets us apart from those in the world. The love of Jesus cannot be counterfeited and it cannot be duplicated. The one word that truly describes who Jesus is is love. For the love of God is unconditional and eternal and when we understand God’s love for us we will simply desire to impact every person we see with God’s love.
