He belonged to the house and line of David

In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child.

Luke 2:1, 4-5 NIV

King David was given a promise and covenant by the Lord that he would always have a descendant to sit upon the throne.  This promise is fulfilled through Jesus Christ.  In the gospel of Matthew the genealogy of Jesus is traced through His earthly father Joseph and is traced back to the line of King David.  In the gospel of Luke the genealogy of Jesus is is traced back through the line of Mary back to King David and all the way to Adam.

The Lord is faithful to fulfill every promise and every part of His word.  God’s sovereign will shall be carried out upon the earth and Jesus is returning very soon.  All over the world in the quietness of people’s rooms and homes the Holy Spirit is drawing and preparing hearts.  It is God’s desire that none should perish but that all should come to everlasting life.  This doesn’t mean that all people will be saved, but that God’s desire is that none should perish.

But He has given every person throughout history a freewill to choose to reject or receive Him.  Those who receive Jesus Christ will spend all eternity in God’s kingdom.  Those who reject Jesus Christ will spend an eternity separated from God in the lake of fire.  Our lives on this earth are very short and are merely a breath compared to eternity.

So today keep your hearts and minds focused upon the Lord and look expectantly to His return.  He shall come like a thief in the night and He shall fulfill every part of His word.  For our hearts to be prepared requires that we simply abide in Him each day.  Press in daily to the place of prayer and the study of His word.
