7 having been deeply rooted [in Him] and now being continually built up in Him and [becoming increasingly more] established in your faith, just as you were taught, and overflowing in it with gratitude. Colossians 2:7.
We are called to be deeply rooted in Christ Jesus. This calls us to become a serious disciple of the Lord and not simply a casual follower of Jesus Christ. There are many in nations in the west who have a lukewarm relationship with Jesus Christ. But the Lord’s desire is that we would give Him our whole heart and would abandon ourselves to the cross.
In the beginning of our walk with the Lord this can seem very overwhelming, but as we seek the Lord each day the Holy Spirit does a deep work in our hearts in which He transforms us from the inside out. As the Holy Spirit continues to reveal more unto us and lays things upon our hearts to pray we must speak them out to the Father as we go boldly before His throne of grace with confidence.
One of the ways that the Holy Spirit leads us is through desire. The Lord will place deep desires within us and He is simply leading us to pray these things forth. As we grow in Christ we become more rooted in Him until it is no longer us who remain, but simply Him. The cry of our heart must be that He would increase and that we would decrease.
