But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”
We must make a choice in this life. Who will we serve. No matter what we choose, we will be serving someone. We will either choose to serve Jesus Christ or we will choose to serve ourselves. The battle that exist is between the desires of the flesh and the leading of the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit will lead and guide us into all truth. He will direct our steps and everything He leads us to do will align with God’s word. Through following the leading of the Holy Spirit we will not gratify the desires and lust of the flesh. The lust of the flesh are simply the sinful desires that exist within us.
Every day we find ourselves in a valley of decision. But when we take the time to spend intimate fellowship with the Lord we are strengthened for the day. Where we will often struggle is when we try to live this Christian life without developing deep intimacy with the Lord. Jesus made it clear that we are to abide in Him and through abiding in Him we will produce the fruit of the Holy Spirit in our lives.
The fruit that is produced in our lives is simply a result of what we are choosing to invest our lives in. If we spend time investing in the desires of the flesh the only thing we will reap is destruction. But if we choose to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit then we will produce in our lives the fruit of the Holy Spirit.
The Christian journey is simply one of transformation. We are simply transformed into the image of Christ as we walk with the Lord on a daily basis. The disciples walked with Jesus daily and it was through walking with Him that their lives were changed. We today have the very same opportunity. Let us use the time we have on this earth to walk with the Lord and to reflect His glory in all things. Let His love consume our hearts.
Father today I come before you and ask you to strengthen me for the journey. Father I pray that you would give me wisdom in all things and lead and guide me by the Holy Spirit. My desire is to reflect your glory in all things and to glorify and magnify the name of Jesus. Simply have your way and may your will be done. In the mighty name of Jesus, Amen!
