God is love

We have come to know [by personal observation and experience], and have believed [with deep, consistent faith] the love which God has for us. God is love, and the one who abides in love abides in God, and God abides continually in him.

1 John 4:16

The one thing that should describe someone who deeply follows Jesus Christ is simply His love at work in their heart.  This scripture was written by the Apostle John and during Jesus earthly ministry John and James were known as the sons of thunder.  Both of them at one point during the Lord’s earthly ministry when He was rejected in Samaria asked if they should call down fire from heaven upon the people.  Before they came to know Christ they were men who were zealous but failed to understand true love.

As John walked with the Lord during His earthly ministry and then after the Lord ascended, John was a man who came to know what true love was.  In his own gospel he refers to himself as the disciple who the Lord loved.  He didn’t refer to himself this way because he was prideful or full of himself, he referred to himself this way because he truly understood how much the Lord loved him.

When we walk intimately with Jesus Christ we come to a place in our lives where His love simply consumes our every moment.  We can do nothing but love those around us.  We see people as the Lord sees people and that is simply broken vessels who are in need of a savior.  None of us are saved by our works and it is simply because of the grace and mercy of God.

Today let us simply grow in the Lord’s love.  Let us become a people who are so full of His love that we simply desire to impact every person we meet with God’s love.  There are so many who are broken and bound by the lies of the enemy.  They desire true love and we as believers and followers of Jesus Christ can simply be living testamonies of the truth of that love.
