That the older men be sober

But as for you, speak the things which are proper for sound doctrine: that the older men be sober, reverent, temperate, sound in faith, in love, in patience; the older women likewise, that they be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things— that they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed.  Titus 2:5

It is the responsibility of the older saints to set a good example for the younger saints.  All of us are in process and growth as we follow Jesus Christ and there is no greater testament to the power of God’s love and His grace than a living example.

When people come to Christ for the first time they are babies in the Lord and it is important that the older members of the church take time to mentor those who are young in the Lord into a mature relationship.  Jesus set the example during His earthly ministry in which He spent every day with the disciples as they viewed His life.

It is true what they say actions do speak louder than words and the disciples were able to see the love of the Lord in action as He reached out to people on a daily basis.  The disciples watched the living example of the Lord and they learned to emulate Him in all things.  There is no counterfeit for the love of Christ and when we draw near to the Lord it is His love that touches everyone around you.

Today if you find that you have walked with the Lord for a long time the Lord may be calling you to spend time mentoring one of the young believers in your local church.  Our Father’s desire is that all His sons and daughters would simply walk in maturity and this only takes place as people are properly discipled.
