I will give you rest

28 Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.  Matthew 11:28

All of us are born into sin.  Our lives are chained by the curse of sin and death before we come to Jesus Christ.  Jesus is calling to all and He is calling to all to come and leave their burdens before Him.  Everything was accomplished at the cross.  At the cross the curse of sin and death was destroyed.  The sin debt that we all owe was paid in full.

The Lord is offering us a free gift and all we need to do is give Him our lives.  He is asking for our lives not because He desires to place heavy burdens upon us, but He desires our lives because He desires to use us to glorify His holy name.  It is a humbling thought to think that the Living God desires to use us to glorify His name.

But many today are struggling and they are struggling because they have not fully yielded their hearts to the Lord.  If we desire to have one foot in God’s kingdom and one foot in the world we will always be without peace.  We must be willing to place both feet in God’s kingdom and abandon the ways and desires of this world.  For when we have one foot still in the world the Holy Spirit will continually convict our hearts to give all of ourselves to the Lord.

If your desire is to rest in the Lord today simply be willing to lay down the things He is asking you to lay down.  Nothing in this world will ever satisfy what only Jesus Himself can satisfy.  All of us are born with an emptiness because we are born into sin and it is only Jesus who can fulfill that emptiness.  Today if you desire to rest in the Lord simply humble yourself before Him and give Him all of your heart.

Heavenly Father I come to you today and ask you to search my heart.  I desire to rest in you and walk continually in unbroken fellowship.  Reveal to me anything in my life that needs to be laid down before your throne.  I love you Father and pray that my life would simply glorify the name of Jesus in everything.  In the mighty name of Jesus, Amen!
